How do you finish the SAT essay in time?

You only have 25 minutes to write the essay and there's no way I can ever finish in time. If I do, I have to rush and it ends up being a terrible essay. My handwritings not that neat, so I try to write slow so that it's readable, but this just ends up taking longer. I don't know what to do. I really need to get a good SAT score and my essay grade is killing me. Help!

    Hi Eric,

The important thing is to relax. If you are stressed about not being able to finish the essay, you won't. Further, since the essay comes first, this will negatively affect the rest of your test.

If you're having a problem with time, here are some tips that may help you. First, try to come up with some good examples now before you even take the test. Think of books you read for school, or events you learned in history, and plan out ways you can use each as a point in your essay. The topics themselves are usually rather broad, and so it's easy to make an example "fit" no matter what it is.

If you're having trouble finishing an entire essay, you may be trying to tackle too much. You should be writing only 2-3 solid examples to support your argument. Make sure to take a concrete 'yes' or 'no' answer to the prompt, too. Trying to qualify a 'sometimes' answer may take too long for you. Counter-arguments are nice, but totally not necessary.

Finally, remember that the instructions are always the same. The only thing that matters is the first sentence after the word "Assignment:" Even the quote they provide you is not necessary. Save a bit of time by reading that first sentence right away, and then immediately planning your essay with the examples you have prepared. Practice, practice, practice, and eventually you'll have no problem finishing the test in time.

There are more tips to save time in the link below, too. I hope this has been helpful. Good luck!
